Florida Steampunk and Wandering Spirits
Just a quick little brief on a few things coming through the web works before I return to my writing cave.
My con report of the inaugural Florida Steampunk Society Exhibition East has been running at Beyond Victoriana this week. In Part I, I discuss the Admiral’s Feast, Penny Dreadful Production’s Remnant, panels and a short chat with the lovely O.M. Grey. Part II is my interview...

Dear Steamers,
Jeff and I are honored by this award. Our number one goal in writing this book was to show how much momentum is behind this movement, and you can’t have momentum without a wonderful community like you all. Having our readers within that community vote us best in non-fiction tells us we did accomplished that goal, and inspires us to continue accomplishing it. Thank you all...

Assassin spiders lure their prey to them by plucking at the web of their intended...

Mapping Thoreau Country →
Awesome new project for cartography nerds and Thoreau enthusiasts. Just read about this project in the Thoreau Society Newsletter, which I plan on joining shortly. I found this the most interesting:
“One of the more unique contributions of the Thoreau Country Project will be the opposition it poses to certain myths about Thoreau’s personal involvement in the world around him. The...

– Mina Loy, Feminist Manifesto.
Loy wrote her Feminist Manifesto in 1918. With outrages like the current birth control fiasco, I often daydream about Mary Wollstonecraft (whose seminal Vindications of the Rights of Women which turned 220 last month) swinging by the 20th century to pick up Mina Loy...

Adam Gnade: STRIKE A MATCH WHILE FIRE'S STILL FREE →
This is what I’ve been mulling over for a long time now. I still haven’t come to any conclusions, but it is nice to know I’m not alone with this disillusionment. Thanks gnade:
This is what I’ve been trying to say all week and because I couldn’t say it the way I wanted to I’ve stayed away: The internet is sad and gross and unbecoming. Twitter is not entertainment and it never...

The Musee Mechanique →
mcleodb:
While in San Fran, I went to the Musee Mechanique, a free museum at Fisherman’s Wharf. It features lots of arcade machines - both penny arcade machines from the early 20th century, and video game arcade machines from the later decades. I took a bunch of pictures, and gave some of my impressions, over at Not Our Day Job.
This will soon be my official home base...
stay tuned for transmission.
